This is a spot in the inaugural hand building class at Kickwheel’s studio, taught by instructor Kristen Easters on Saturday afternoons from 2-5pm. In this class open to all levels, students will take a deep dive into the realm of hand building and sculpture techniques to bring their creative visions to life. Students will be encouraged to embrace their capacity to express themselves through tactile explorations in clay.
Kristen will guide students in the journey of bringing their unique project ideas into fruition from the imagination into the physical realm. Students will use different methodologies of sculpting with clay from slab, coil and pinching techniques to hollowing out a solid form. The class will also cover some surface decoration techniques during the second half of the class. Students are not limited to any specific project and ought to have some compositions in mind before the first class. Maybe it’s a garden sculpture series, or an animal, or an abstract form? Functional hand-built forms are also acceptable in this class. You dream it, we’ll sculpt it.

Class starts May 18th 2024, 2-5pm running through to June 22nd 2024.

Kristen is a current artist in residence at Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Project and has over 10 years of experience studying and teaching ceramics. This class is sure to be a fun, relaxed environment for all to enjoy the therapeutic and healing qualities that the clay medium offers. Students will learn new skills, make new friends and take home their masterpiece(s) made during the class. The last class meeting will incorporate a show and tell potluck party for students to share their beautiful creations.
